Pay up or we keep baby, Indonesian clinic tells poor parents
This article is about how poor parents in Jakarta, Indonesia have to pay up the bill before they can bring their baby back home. An Indonesian couple is having their new baby being kept in the hospital because they were not able to pay up their bill of 3.3million rupiah for delivery and care. The clinic in Bojong Nangka isn’t allowing Sumarno (the mother) to bring home the baby but she herself is allowed to leave on January 2. The family is still 2.2 million dollar short ($250). The father of the baby doesn’t know how he is able to pay up when he is just making about 10,000 rupiah a day (just over $1). The ministry of health has a health insurance system for the poor but somehow the couple did not have a relevant card.

Government Involvement
If the government were more involved with the health care system the couple could have brought home their baby on January 2 when the mother went home. But since the government isn’t an involved in it now the baby isn’t home and has to stay in the hospital. The father of the baby is only making about $1 a day, how is he able to pay the rest of the 1.3 million rupaih. As days go by the bill is increasing in the client for the parents because the client is looking after the baby. If the client was not private the baby would have been home now with the family. Keeping the baby in the client is not going to help because money will add on each day, and the parent is already paying 2.2 million which they can not afford and now the client is even adding more on top of that.
I think the client should let the baby go home and then let the family just pay only the 2.2 million rupaih. If they can not even pay the 2.2 million what make you think that they can pay the additional day to day care fee.
